As the heat of summer transitions into the crispness of fall, the New Hope Resource Center (NHRC) homeless task force is asking for donations of critical items for our clients experiencing homelessness.
Over the past six months, New Hope has seen a large increase of clients experiencing a housing crisis. We see this when families are living out of their cars, trucks, and “well used” recreational vehicles, which frequently move among commercial parking lots or in and out of neighborhoods. We see clients who come to us with no belongings and little hope after escaping an abusive relationship. And most recently we have seen an increase in working folks who cannot pay their rent when it has been raised as much as $600 per month. The lack of affordable housing puts many more of our neighbors, friends, and congregation members at risk for homelessness.
Through a survey of current NHRC clients, our task force has been evaluating the crucial needs of people in north Spokane County.
Following is short list of items people in our survey identified as essential to buffer winter’s elements.
3-4 person tents, preferably with room to stand up
Mummy style sleeping bags rated to a minimum of zero degrees Fahrenheit
1 lb. propane cylinders for heaters
Hand and foot warmers
Unscented baby/hand wipes
Please consider donating these critical items this fall before we experience a winter blast of cold air and snow. These donations will be used to support the local mission work of New Hope, helping those in our community stay safe and find HOPE.
